Eurozone inflation slowed in June
Annual inflation slowed down in the euro area in June, according to the final data published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on Wednesday.
In June, annual inflation in the euro area was 2.5 percent, after 2.6 percent in May. A year earlier, in June of last year, the annual increase in the euro area consumer price index was 5.5 percent. In a monthly comparison, consumer prices increased by 0.2 percent in June.
Core inflation excluding energy, food and alcohol costs was 2.9 percent in June, as in May.
The price increase of food, alcohol and tobacco products in June slowed to 2.4 percent from 2.6 percent in May, energy prices increased by 0.2 percent after the 0.3 percent increase in May. Services rose in price by 4.1 percent, the same as in May.
Inflation in the 27 countries of the EU was 2.6 percent in June, after 2.7 percent in May, and it was 6.4 percent in June a year ago. Compared to May, prices in the EU increased by 0.2 percent this June.
