Retail sales growth slows in the Czech Republic
In September, retail sales in the Czech Republic grew by 2.6 percent year-on-year. In August, this indicator was 3.3 percent. Compared to August, retail sales decreased by 0.2 percent, the Czech Statistical Office announced on its website on Friday.
“Retail sales increased in September year-on-year, but more slowly than in August. The growth was mainly in the sale of industrial goods and fuels,” pointed out Jana Gotvaldová, the statistical office’s specialist director. She noted that food sales decreased, and sales of computer and communication equipment, footwear, and clothing also decreased.
The statistical office also published the development of services. These strengthened by only 0.1 percent year-on-year in the third quarter, which essentially means stagnation. In the previous, second quarter, services revenues increased by 2.2 percent.
In a quarter-on-quarter comparison, services revenues decreased by 0.6 percent in the third quarter.
In the third quarter, 7.9 million guests stayed in hotels and guesthouses in the Czech Republic, up 1.4 percent year-on-year. While the number of foreign guests increased, the number of domestic guests stagnated. The number of guest nights spent in commercial accommodation amounted to 21.2 million, an increase of 1 percent.
