Growth rate slowing down in grocery retail
In the first three quarters of the year the growth rate of grocery retail sales slowed down. Between January and September 2016 sales represented a value of HUF 1,200 billion – 2 percent more than in the first three quarters of 2015. However, back then sales were growing at a speed of 7 percent. In Q1-Q3 2016 volume sales dropped 1 percent; one year earlier this indicator was at plus 7 percent. Ágnes Szűcs-Villányi, retail service manager of Nielsen told that the market share of 200m² and smaller shops decreased, while all other sales channels improved their positions. Hypermarkets performed 2 percent better, 401-2,500m² shops saw their share in sales rise 4 percent and the share of 201-400m² shops in sales augmented by 6 percent. /
