Food prices are rising more slowly in the euro area and the EU
In September, the annual rate of inflation moderated both in the euro area and in the European Union – the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, announced on Wednesday as final data.
In the euro area, the annual harmonized consumer price index (HICP) calculated for EU comparison purposes fell in September from 5.2 percent in August to 4.3 percent, the lowest since October 2021.
The decrease in energy prices accelerated to 4.6 percent after the 3.3 percent fall in August.
The prices of food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose the most in September, by 8.8 percent, which is, however, a slowdown after the 9.7 percent increase in August. The price of services also increased at a slower pace, by 4.7 percent after the 5.5 percent registered in August.
