Retail accounts: banks are already warming up for summer fee increases
Although banks have agreed to a moratorium on retail bank account fees until the end of June, some players have already published the amount of fee increases applied from the summer.
The banks’ hands are tied by the voluntary moratorium on retail current account fees until the end of June 2026, with two players already publishing the amount of inflationary fee increases expected from the beginning of July. According to BiztosDöntés.hu experts, other banks may follow their example, so the summer could bring a wave of price increases for retail accounts.
According to a publication by K&H Bank, the financial institution will increase its fees related to bank account management and bank cards by the value of the 2025 consumer price index (inflation), i.e. by 4.4 percent, as of April 1, 2026. However, the bank will refrain from enforcing the increased fees during the promotional period until June 30, 2026.
Unicredit Bank will increase its bank account management fees from March 1, 2026 – also by 4.4 percent – but this change will not be enforced until June 30 – due to the bank’s voluntary commitments.
UniCredit Bank is also changing the costs related to mortgages
At the same time, UniCredit Bank is also changing the conditions for several cost items related to mortgages. For example, from March 16, 2026, the financial institution will increase the real estate valuation fee related to mortgages – i.e. the fee for determining the collateral value – for both commercial and non-commercial properties. Thus, in the case of a family house, terraced house, or holiday home used for non-commercial purposes, the fee will increase from 50,800 forints to 63,500 forints, and in the case of a condominium apartment used for non-commercial purposes and residential construction plots, the fee will increase from 44,450 forints to 57,150 forints.
From April 1, the bank will also increase other fees related to mortgage loans: for example, the contract amendment fee will increase from 36,585 to 38,190 forints, and the collateral exchange/withdrawal fee will increase from 46,340 to 48,375 forints – the latter, however, must also be calculated with the fee charged per property for determining the value of the loan collateral. The administration fee for issuing a credit certificate will also change, rising from 6,095 to 6,360 forints from April.
