Coupon war over pensioner vouchers: Lidl and Aldi both offer extra discounts
The mailing of food vouchers for pensioners has started, and the two large discount chains responded quickly: Lidl and Aldi are also supporting the elderly with a special promotion.
According to Lidl, customers who redeem a pensioner food voucher worth at least 5,000 forints will receive a 500 forint coupon as a gift after every purchase. This can mean an additional discount of up to 3,000 forints for them, and they can also access additional coupons in the Lidl Plus application. The coupons can be used in any Lidl store in Hungary until December 31, exclusively for cold foods.
“Thanks to the promotion, the value of the pensioner voucher can be worth up to 10 percent more with us,”
– highlighted Judit Tőzsér, Head of Communications at Lidl Hungary.
Aldi has also announced its own discount: anyone who makes a purchase of at least 8,000 forints and uses a pensioner voucher in part or in full to pay will receive a 1,000 forint coupon. The discount can be redeemed for any product in any Aldi store in Hungary, until November 30, 2025 at the latest.
Bernhard Haider, Managing Director of Aldi Hungary, highlighted that the measure provides direct assistance to those who spend the majority of their income on basic foodstuffs, and are therefore particularly affected by price increases.
