A special store closure is coming on Tuesday
As we have become accustomed to in recent years, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, will be a public holiday for healthcare workers. The first of July is Semmelweis Day, or Hungarian Healthcare Day, on which most healthcare providers will be closed nationwide.
Accordingly, general practitioner, dental and specialist surgeries, nurse consultants, and most pharmacies will be closed. Semmelweis Day applies exclusively to healthcare workers, so the public holiday will not affect other sectors – however, patients should prepare in advance and not schedule the day for routine medical procedures or medication refills.
Urgent cases will of course be provided: general practitioner and specialist on-call services, as well as on-call pharmacies, will also be open on that day. Their contact details can be searched by town or county in the pharmacy database on the website of the National Institute of Pharmacy and Food Hygiene (NNGYK), as well as in the Health Window mobile application.
It is important to know that at the entrance to doctors’ offices and pharmacies, it is mandatory to display clearly visible and legible information about which duty station provides care on a given day. So, if someone does not have prior information, it is enough to go to the nearest office or pharmacy and read the posted duty schedule there.
Semmelweis Day is also an opportunity to express our appreciation for the selfless work of healthcare workers – this year, attention and appreciation towards those who are at the service of patients on a daily basis may be particularly important.
