Prices increased by 0.4 percent on average last year
According to data from the Central Statistical Office (KSH), in December 2016 consumer prices were 1.8 percent higher on average than a year before. In 2016 consumer prices elevated by 0.4 percent on average. In comparison with December 2015, food prices increased by 1.3 percent. Sugar prices soared by 16.3 percent and seasonal product prices (potatoes, fresh fruits and vegetables) rose by 3.6 percent.
Pork’s price dropped 8.5 percent and poultry became 3.6 percent cheaper. Alcoholic drink and tobacco product prices grew by 2.5 percent. Services were provided for 1.9 percent more. Motor fuels became 6.8 percent more expensive. The price of household energy didn’t change. Compared with November 2016, consumer prices were up 0.4 percent and food prices elevated by 0.1 percent.
