In September 2025, consumer prices exceeded those of a year earlier by an average of 4.3 percent. Compared to August, prices did not change on average, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.

2024. Compared to September, food prices increased by 4.7 percent (excluding catering services by 3.0 percent), including chocolate and cocoa by 19.2 percent, eggs by 18.2 percent, coffee by 17.6 percent, confectionery by 13.1 percent, fruit and vegetable juices by 11.9 percent, buffet items by 9.5 percent, seasonal foods (potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fresh domestic and tropical fruits) by 9.2 percent (including fresh domestic and tropical fruits by 19.6 percent), cooking oil, and meals out by 8.4 percent. Within the product group, the price of margarine decreased by 29.0, flour by 12.0, dairy products by 8.4, sugar by 8.2, French fries and sausages by 7.7, milk by 7.4, and pork by 4.5 percent, the report detailed.

On average, household energy costs increased by 10.6 percent, with piped gas and electricity rising by 23.4 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively.

The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 7.1 percent, with tobacco products rising by 8.7 percent.

Services increased by 5.9 percent, including holiday services by 12.9, vehicle repair and maintenance and personal care services by 9.5-9.5, home repair and maintenance by 9.4, rent by 9.3, sports and museum tickets by 8.8, and health services by 8.6 percent.

The price of durable consumer goods increased by 2.5 percent, including jewelry by 20.7, room furniture by 5.1, heating and cooking equipment by 4.1, and new passenger cars by 1.8 percent. The price of vehicle fuels decreased by 0.3 percent, and the price of medicines and medical supplies increased by 4.4 percent.

Compared to August 2025, consumer prices did not change on average.

Food prices decreased by 0.2 percent in one month (0.5 percent excluding catering services), mainly due to the 4.0 percent price decrease in seasonal foods. The price of dry pasta decreased by 2.0, that of pastries by 1.3, that of milk, butter, buttercream by 0.7-0.7, that of rice, bran by 0.6 percent, that of school meals by 2.1, that of kindergarten and nursery meals by 1.4, that of eggs by 1.3, that of fruit and vegetable juices by 1.1, and that of dairy products by 0.8 percent.

Due to the change of season, clothing items became the most expensive, by 1.5 percent in one month. The price of household energy decreased by 0.1 percent, within this, electricity cost 0.2 percent more and bottled gas cost 1.0 percent less.

The price of services decreased by an average of 0.4 percent, within this, the price of holiday services decreased by 6.3 percent due to seasonal effects. Vehicle fuels, as well as pharmaceuticals and medical supplies increased in price by 0.4-0.4 percent, the Central Statistical Office reported.
