KSH: industrial production decreased by 2.7 percent in October compared to the same period of the previous year, and increased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month
In October 2025, the volume of industrial production fell by 2.7 percent compared to a year earlier. The index adjusted for working day effects is the same as the unadjusted one, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) confirmed in its second estimate released on Friday.
A decline occurred in the vast majority of manufacturing sub-sectors.
Based on seasonally and working day adjusted data, industrial output was 0.5 percent higher than in September 2025.
In October, the volume of industrial exports was 2.4 percent lower than a year earlier. The export of vehicle manufacturing, which represents 30 percent of the manufacturing industry’s export sales, fell by 8.5 percent, while the production of computer, electronic and optical products, which has a weight of 20 percent, increased by 28 percent.
Domestic sales of industry decreased by 4.5 percent, and that of manufacturing by 5.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
The production of the manufacturing industry, which represents the decisive (95 percent) weight within industry, decreased by 2.9 percent, while the output of the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) increased by 8.5 percent, and that of mining, which has a small weight, increased by 2.0 percent.
The Central Statistical Office detailed: the volume of vehicle production, which has the largest share and represents 25 percent of manufacturing production, decreased by 5.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The production of road vehicles fell by 5.0 percent, and the production of road vehicle components by 8.6 percent.
The production of computer, electronic and optical products, which accounts for 14 percent of manufacturing production, exceeded the October 2024 level by 16.4 percent. Looking at the two largest sub-sectors, the production of computers and peripheral units expanded by 78 percent, while the production of electronic components and circuit boards fell by 32 percent.
The production of electrical equipment, which accounts for 9.0 percent of manufacturing, fell by 4.5 percent from a year earlier. Of the two most significant sub-sectors, the volume of battery and dry cell production decreased by 1.8 percent, while the production of electric motors, power generators, distribution and control devices remained at the October 2024 level.
The production of food, beverages and tobacco products, which accounts for 14 percent of the manufacturing industry, decreased by 1.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with both domestic and foreign sales declining. Meat processing, preservation and meat product production, which represents the largest share (23 percent), decreased by 0.1 percent.
Production also decreased in six sub-sectors, by between 0.6 and 15.6 percent, most strongly in the production of vegetable and animal oils, and least in the production of bakery and pasta products. In the other four sub-sectors, output increased by between 1.2 and 16.8 percent, most notably in the production of animal feed.
Of the two medium-weight sub-sectors, the production of rubber, plastic and non-metallic mineral products decreased by 5.1 percent, and the production of basic metals and metal products decreased by 2.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
Continuing the previous month’s growth, the production of machinery and equipment, which represents 5.7 percent of the manufacturing industry, increased by 2.0 percent, mainly due to increased exports, while domestic sales decreased.
Among the sub-sectors, light coke production and petroleum processing fell the most, by 32 percent, compared to a year earlier, with sales falling significantly in both sales directions.
According to the report, industrial production increased in three regions and decreased in five compared to the same period of the previous year. The largest volume increase, 12.0 percent, was registered in Central Transdanubia, while the most significant decline, 15.6 percent, was registered in Northern Hungary.
The Central Statistical Office announced that the volume of all new orders in the monitored manufacturing sectors increased by 0.6 percent compared to October 2024. New domestic orders decreased by 3.8 percent
