KSH: in October, the number of guests increased by 11 percent and guest nights by 10 percent compared to a year earlier
In October 2025, almost 1.7 million guests spent 3.8 million guest nights in tourist accommodation (commercial, private and other). The number of guests was 11 percent higher and the number of guest nights was 10 percent higher than a year earlier, which was also due to the long weekend related to the October 23 holiday, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.
Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of guests increased by 9.8 percent and the number of guest nights by 6.9 percent compared to October 2024. 70 percent of guests arrived at commercial accommodations, where their number increased by 9.5 percent compared to the previous year. Private and other accommodation registered 15 percent more guests than a year earlier.
In October, both the number of domestic guests and the number of guest nights spent by them were 11 percent more than in the same month of the previous year.
Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic guests increased by 4.6 percent and the number of guest nights spent by them by 5.7 percent compared to October 2024.
The 821 thousand domestic guests spent almost 1.8 million guest nights in tourist accommodation, of which 596 thousand guests and almost 1.3 million guest nights were registered. 79 percent of the latter guests were received by hotels, where their number increased by 10 percent compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic guests in private and other accommodation facilities exceeded October 2024 by 12 percent.
The number of domestic guests increased in all tourist regions compared to the same month of the previous year, with the highest increase (19 percent) in the Győr-Pannonhalma region. The number of domestic guests arriving at tourist accommodation facilities was 20 percent higher in Budapest and 11 percent higher at Lake Balaton.
The number of foreign guests increased by 12 percent, and the number of guest nights spent by them increased by 9.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of foreign guests increased by 10 percent, and the number of guest nights spent by them increased by 8.6 percent compared to October 2024.
The 833 thousand foreign guests arriving at tourist accommodation facilities spent 2.0 million guest nights, of which 569 thousand guests and nearly 1.4 million guest nights in commercial accommodation facilities registered.
87 percent of the latter guests were received by hotels, where their number was 7.5 percent more than a year earlier. The number of foreign guests in private and other accommodation facilities exceeded October 2024 by 18 percent.
Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of foreign guests increased the most in the Budapest area tourist region (24 percent), and decreased the most in Gyula and its region (17 percent). The number of foreign guests arriving at tourist accommodations in Budapest was 15 percent higher and at Lake Balaton by 1.4 percent.
The KSH report also states that a total of 26,460 tourist accommodations, including 2,494 commercial and 23,966 private and other accommodations, welcomed guests.
Among the commercial accommodations, 977 hotels and 1,034 guesthouses were open in part or all of October.
According to the data, the total gross sales revenue at tourist accommodations was 104.2 billion forints, 14 percent more at current prices than in the previous month. than a year earlier.
With the Széchenyi Holiday Card, cardholders spent 11 percent more, 3.1 billion forints at current prices, at tourist accommodation compared to the same month of the previous year.
In January-October 2025, almost 16.8 million guests were registered at tourist accommodation, 6.8 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. The number of domestic guests was 3.0 percent more, and that of foreign guests was 11 percent more (almost 8.5 million and 8.3 million, respectively) at tourist accommodation – the Central Statistical Office announced.
