KSH: in October, consumer prices increased by 3.2 percent on average compared to the same month of the previous year
In October 2024, consumer prices were on average 3.2 percent higher than a year earlier. In one month, they rose by an average of 0.1 percent, within which vehicle fuels rose in price by 0.8 percent, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.

In twelve months, food prices increased by 4.5 percent, including flour by 38.9, milk by 16.8, fruit and vegetable juice by 12.1, cooking oil by 9.9, chocolate and cocoa by 9.8, butter, butter cream increased by 7.9 percent, restaurant meals by 7.6 percent, and school meals by 6.2 percent compared to October 2023.
Within the product group, the price of dry pasta decreased by 7.3 percent, that of sugar by 2.9 percent, that of margarine by 2.7 percent, and that of eggs by 2.1 percent.
Services rose in price by 7.2 percent, including highway tolls, car rental, parking 10.6, rent 10.4, vehicle repair and maintenance 9.7, personal care services 9.1, sports and museum tickets 8, 9, apartment repair and maintenance 8.8 percent, apartment building common costs 8.4 percent, holiday services 5.8 percent – KSH added.
The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products rose by 3.8 percent, including spirits by 4.0 percent.
Household energy became cheaper by 4.8 percent, including piped gas by 9.5 percent and electricity by 0.7 percent.
Consumer durables had to be paid 0.3 percent less, within which the price of used cars fell by 7.5 percent, while jewelry by 11.4, new cars by 5.9, room furniture, kitchen and other furniture by 2, It increased by 4-2.4 percent. Medicines and medical products became 3.6 percent more expensive, vehicle fuels became 5.2 percent cheaper.
