KSH: in March, prices increased by 25.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year
In March, consumer prices were on average 25.2 percent higher than a year earlier. In the past year, household energy and food prices have risen the most, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced on Wednesday.
Consumer prices increased by an average of 0.8 percent in one month. Food prices rose by 42.6 percent compared to last March. Within this, the most are eggs (74.0 percent), dairy products (72.8 percent), butter and butter cream (68.0 percent), bread (67.0 percent), confectionery flour products (66.2 percent ), cheese (60.6 percent), dry pasta (53.9 percent), milk (50.4 percent) and pastries (48.0 percent). Within the product group, the price of flour (9.7 percent) and cooking oil (3.9 percent) increased the least.
Household energy rose in price by 43.1 percent, including piped gas by 62.8 percent, firewood by 55.9 percent, bottled gas by 51.6 percent, and electricity by 27.6 percent. You had to pay 11.2 percent more for consumer durables, including 20.7 percent more for new cars, 19.6 percent more for heating and cooking equipment, 18.9 percent more for kitchen and other furniture, and 16.7 percent more for room furniture.
