KSH: agricultural purchase prices fell in May
The average purchase price of agricultural products in May was lower than a year ago for the second month running, after 7.2 percent in April, they decreased by 1.1 percent.

The price of plant growing and horticultural products fell by an average of 9.3 percent in one year after the 18.6 percent drop in April. The increase in the price of live animals and animal products slowed by 2.8 percentage points to 19.9 percent. The annual decrease in the price of plant products was caused by cereals and industrial crops, while the price increase of vegetables, potatoes and fruits continued to increase compared to April. In May, the price of vegetables was 26.7 percent higher than a year earlier, after 14.5 percent in April, the annual rate of price increase for potatoes jumped from 46.3 percent to 47.9 percent, and that of fruits from 4.0 percent to 21.1 percent.
The purchase price of cereals was 10.1% lower than last May, and that of industrial crops was 38.9% lower on average. The purchase price of live animals was 25.3 percent higher in May than a year earlier, after 24.4 percent in April, while the price increase of animal products slowed from 19.2 to 9.2 percent.
