KSH: in May, retail turnover exceeded the same period of the previous year by 2.1 percent, decreasing by 1.3 percent compared to the previous month
In May, the volume of retail trade turnover exceeded the same period of the previous year by 2.1 percent, according to both raw and calendar-adjusted data, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Monday.
The volume of sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 0.5 percent in food and food-type mixed stores, by 4.0 percent in non-food retail trade, and by 1.1 percent in fuel retail trade compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to seasonally and calendar-adjusted data, the volume of retail trade turnover was 1.3 percent lower than the previous month.
In May, compared to the same period of the previous year, adjusted for calendar effects, the sales volume of food-type mixed stores, which account for 76 percent of food retail trade, increased by 2.1 percent, while that of food, beverage and tobacco specialty stores decreased by 4.0 percent.
The volume of non-food retail trade turnover increased by 4.0 percent overall. Within this, the volume of sales in general stores of industrial goods increased by 9.1 percent, in furniture and technical goods stores by 7.2 percent, in pharmaceutical, medical product and perfume stores by 3.6 percent, in textile, clothing and footwear stores by 1.0 percent, in book, computer and other industrial goods stores by 0.4 percent, and in second-hand goods stores by 2.5 percent.
According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH) report, the volume of mail-order and online retail trade, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 8.1 percent of retail turnover, increased by 4.8 percent.
The volume of motor vehicle and motor vehicle spare parts stores, which are not included in retail data, remained essentially unchanged.
The turnover of national retail trade reached 1,691 billion forints at current prices in May.
