KSH: in May, consumer prices increased by 4.0 percent on average compared to the same month of the previous year
In May 2024, consumer prices were on average 4.0 percent higher than a year earlier. Compared to April, prices fell by an average of 0.1 percent, vehicle fuel prices fell by 4.4 percent, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Monday.
Food prices increased by 1.0 percent compared to last May, including sugar by 29.6, chocolate and cocoa by 9.8, fruit and vegetable juice by 9.5, buffet goods by 8.8, pork by 8.6, restaurant meals by 8.1 percent, non-alcoholic soft drinks by 5.6 percent. The price of eggs is 22.0, flour 19.6, dairy products 11.6, dry pasta 10.6, milk and bread 9.0-9.0, cheese 7.4, poultry 6.0 decreased by percent – KSH listed.
Services rose in price by 9.5 percent, including communication services by 14.1, rent by 12.8, personal care services by 10.5, vehicle repair and maintenance by 10.3, tolls, car rental, parking by 9.8, home repair and maintenance 9.7 percent, sports and museum tickets 8.2 percent, holiday services 5.3 percent.
The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 3.5 percent, including tobacco by 3.8 percent.
