KSH: in July, consumer prices exceeded the values of the same month of the previous year by an average of 4.3 percent, and those of June by 0.4 percent
In July, consumer prices were 4.3 percent higher on average than a year earlier. Compared to June, prices were 0.4 percent higher on average, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
Compared to July 2024, food prices increased by 5.9 percent (4.6 percent excluding catering services), including chocolate and cocoa by 20.4 percent, coffee by 19.6 percent, seasonal foods (potatoes, fresh vegetables, and fresh domestic and tropical fruits) by 18.1 percent (including fresh domestic and tropical fruits by 32.0 percent, peaches by 85.4 percent), eggs by 17.7 percent, confectionery and flour products by 13.8 percent, fruit and vegetable juices by 13.2 percent, cooking oil by 10.8 percent, buffet products by 10.2 percent, butter and buttercream by 8.2 percent, pastries, and non-alcoholic soft drinks by 7.0 percent. Within the product group, the price of margarine decreased by 30.1, flour by 10.4, sugar by 9.0, sausages by 8.6, dairy products by 5.6, and pork by 4.2 percent.
Household energy costs increased by 10.9 percent on average, with piped gas rising by 23.1 percent and bottled gas by 4.6 percent.
The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 6.5 percent, with tobacco products rising by 7.8 percent.
The report shows that services increased in price by 5.3 percent, including personal care services by 10.1, sports, museum tickets, and home repair and maintenance by 10.0-10.0, vehicle repair and maintenance by 9.8, rent by 9.5, and health services by 8.3 percent.
The price of durable consumer goods increased by 2.1 percent, including jewelry by 22.5, room furniture by 4.4, kitchen and other furniture by 3.8, and new passenger cars by 2.2 percent. The price of vehicle fuels decreased by 4.3 percent, and pharmaceuticals and medical supplies increased by 4.8 percent.
In one month, compared to June, consumer prices increased by an average of 0.4 percent. The price of food increased by 0.3 percent (0.4 percent excluding catering services). Fresh domestic and tropical fruits increased by 8.4, confectionery by 5.8, chocolate, cocoa by 2.4, poultry and coffee by 1.8-1.8, butter and buttercream by 1.6, sugar by 1.1, non-alcoholic soft drinks by 0.8, and dairy products by 0.7 percent. Within the product group, the price of eggs decreased by 2.6, pastries by 1.7, sausages, and cooking oil by 1.1-1.1, bread by 1.0, milk by 0.8, and flour by 0.6 percent.
