KSH: in July, consumer prices increased by 4.1 percent on average compared to the same month of the previous year
In July 2024, consumer prices were on average 4.1 percent higher than a year earlier, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.
Compared to June, prices rose by an average of 0.7 percent, vehicle fuels became more expensive by 3.8 percent.
Compared to July 2023, food prices increased by 2.7 percent, including sugar by 46.3, flour by 12.4, pork by 10.7, chocolate and cocoa by 10.0, restaurant meals by 8.0, fruit by – and vegetable juice by 7.1 percent, cooking oil by 6.5 percent, non-alcoholic soft drinks by 5.5 percent, and milk by 4.8 percent. Within the product group, the price of eggs decreased by 14.7 percent, that of dairy products by 8.0 percent, that of dry pasta by 7.6 percent, and that of bread by 4.6 percent.
In twelve months, services rose in price by 9.1 percent, including rent by 11.7, personal care services by 10.3, tolls, car rental, parking by 10.1, vehicle repair and maintenance by 10.0, apartment repair and maintenance by 10.0 9.0, sports and museum tickets by 8.3, holiday services by 5.6 percent.
The prices of clothing items, as well as alcoholic beverages and tobacco products, both increased by 4.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, within the latter, that of tobacco products by 4.3 percent.
