KSH: in January, consumer prices exceeded the values of the same month of the previous year by 5.5 percent on average
Compared to January 2024, food prices increased by 6.0 percent, including flour by 43.2, milk by 25.0, eggs by 23.8, cooking oil by 21.5, fruit and vegetable juice by 16.0, butter and butter cream by 15.5, chocolate and cocoa by 12.9, dairy products by 9.1, and coffee by 8.1 percent. Within the product group, the price of dry pasta decreased by 3.6, margarine by 2.9, and sausages by 2.1 percent.
Services increased in price by 8.5 percent, including postal services by 16.8, telephone and internet by 15.0, rent by 11.8, vehicle repair and maintenance by 10.3, home repair and maintenance by 9.9, sports and museum tickets by 9.0, personal care services by 8.6, and holiday services by 7.2 percent.
Compared to January last year, the price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 4.9 percent, including tobacco products by 5.3 percent. Household energy costs increased by 0.2 percent, including piped gas by 1.5 percent, and electricity by 0.7 percent. The price of durable consumer goods increased by 0.8 percent, including jewelry by 17.4, new cars by 6.6, room furniture by 2.6 percent, and used cars by 5.5 percent. Medicines and medical supplies increased by 2.9, and vehicle fuels by 11.8 percent.
In one month, compared to December 2024, food prices increased by an average of 1.9 percent, including milk by 5.8, cooking oil by 5.1, coffee by 4.9, chocolate, cocoa by 4.7, seasonal foods (potatoes, fresh vegetables, fresh domestic and tropical fruits in total) by 4.4, flour by 3.8, dry pasta by 3.0, dairy products by 2.9, and margarine by 2.8 percent.
