KSH: 1.0 million guests spent nearly 2.3 million guest nights in January

In January 2025, 1.0 million guests spent nearly 2.3 million guest nights in tourist accommodation (commercial, private and other). The number of guests increased by 18 percent and guest nights by 8.7 percent compared to the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.

The number of nights spent by domestic guests increased by 0.8 percent and that of foreign guests by 16 percent compared to January 2024.

The number of guests increased by 18 percent and that of guest nights by 8.7 percent in tourist accommodation. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of guests increased by 12 percent and that of guest nights by 6.0 percent compared to January 2024.

According to the KSH report, 72 percent of guest nights were related to commercial accommodation, where turnover exceeded the previous year by 6.7 percent. Private and other accommodation registered 14 percent more guest nights than a year earlier.

The number of domestic guests was 7.2, and the guest nights they spent were 0.8 percent higher than the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic guests increased by 4.3, and the guest nights they spent by 1.2 percent compared to January 2024.

The 473 thousand domestic guests spent 995 thousand guest nights in tourist accommodation, within which 370 thousand guests and 775 thousand guest nights were registered in commercial accommodation. 83 percent of the latter were spent in hotels, where the number of guest nights was 2.0 percent higher than a year earlier. The number of domestic guest nights spent in private and other accommodation facilities exceeded January 2024 by 1.6 percent.

According to the KSH report, the number of domestic guests increased the most in Gyula and its region (by 16 percent), and decreased the most in the Sopron-Fertő tourist region (by 3.9 percent). Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic guest nights increased the most in the Győr-Pannonhalma tourist region (by 22 percent), and decreased the most in the Budapest area (by 11 percent). The number of domestic guests and guest nights registered in tourist accommodation facilities was 10 and 4.2 percent higher at Lake Balaton, and 14 and 1.3 percent higher in Budapest.
