KSH: in February, the number of guests (nearly 1.1 million) exceeded the number of guest nights (2.4 million) by 4.6 percent and the number of guest nights (5.2 percent) by 5.2 percent compared to a year earlier

In February 2026, nearly 1.1 million guests spent 2.4 million guest nights in tourist accommodation (commercial, private and other). The number of guests was 4.6 percent higher and the number of guest nights was 5.2 percent higher than a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.

2026. In January-February, the number of domestic guests arriving at tourist accommodation establishments exceeded the same period of the previous year by 4.7 percent, and that of foreign guests by 5.1 percent.

In February, based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of guests increased by 3.8 percent, and that of guest nights by 4.3 percent compared to February 2025. 75 percent of guests arrived at commercial accommodation establishments, where their number increased by 6.5 percent compared to the previous year. Private and other accommodation registered 0.8 percent fewer guests than a year earlier.

The number of domestic guests was 4.9 percent higher, and the number of guest nights they spent was 6.6 percent higher than in the same month of the previous year.

Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic guests increased by 3.5 percent, and the number of guest nights they spent by 3.0 percent compared to February 2025.

The 509 thousand domestic guests spent 1.1 million guest nights in tourist accommodation, of which 407 thousand in commercial accommodation guests and 859 thousand guest nights were registered. 86 percent of the latter guests were received by hotels, where their number increased by 6.9 percent compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic guests in private and other accommodation facilities exceeded that of February 2025 by 0.2 percent. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of domestic guests increased the most in the Győr-Pannonhalma tourist region (by 27 percent), and decreased the most in the Sopron-Fertő region (by 13 percent). The number of domestic guests arriving at tourist accommodation facilities was 16 percent higher in Budapest and 3.6 percent higher at Lake Balaton, the report shows.

The number of foreign guests and the number of guest nights they spent both increased by 4.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.

Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of foreign guests increased by 5.5 percent and the number of guest nights they spent by 5.1 percent compared to February 2025.

The 559 thousand foreign guests arriving at tourist accommodation facilities spent nearly 1.4 million guest nights, of which 390 thousand guests and 971 thousand guest nights were registered in commercial accommodation. 87 percent of the latter guests were received by hotels, where their number was 5.4 percent higher than a year earlier. The number of foreign guests in private and other accommodation fell by 1.4 percent compared to February 2025. Compared to the same month of the previous year, the number of foreign guests increased the most in the Budapest area tourist region (15 percent), and decreased the most in the Tokaj and Nyíregyháza regions (7.7 percent). The number of foreign guests arriving at tourist accommodation was 6.3 percent higher in Budapest and 4.2 percent higher at Lake Balaton, the Central Statistical Office announced.

According to the report, 18,035 tourist accommodation establishments, including 2,058 commercial and 15,977 private and other accommodation establishments, received guests. Among commercial accommodations, 914 hotels and 846 guesthouses were open in part or all of February.

The total gross sales revenue at tourist accommodations was 61.8 billion forints, 3.3 percent more at current prices than a year earlier. With the Széchenyi Holiday Card, cardholders spent 6.7 percent more at current prices, nearly 2.2 billion forints, at tourist accommodations compared to the same month of the previous year.

In January-February 2026, tourist accommodations registered 4.9 percent more guests than in the same period of the previous year, a total of 2.1 million guests. The number of domestic guests in tourist accommodation increased by 4.7 percent and that of foreign guests by 5.1 percent (1.0 million and 1.1 million, respectively), the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported.
