KSH: industrial production fell by 8.7 percent in February
In February 2025, the volume of industrial production fell by 8.7 percent, or 8.0 percent adjusted for working days, compared to a year earlier. Production fell in all manufacturing sectors, with the largest decline in the manufacture of electrical equipment, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) confirmed in its second estimate released on Friday.
Based on seasonally and working day adjusted data, industrial output was 1.3 percent lower than in January 2025.
In February, the volume of industrial exports was 5.5 percent lower than a year earlier. The export of vehicle manufacturing, which represents 34 percent of manufacturing export sales, fell by 9.4 percent, while the production of computer, electronic and optical products, which accounts for 13 percent, increased by 0.3 percent.
Domestic sales of industry were 2.0 percent lower and those of manufacturing were 8.8 percent lower compared to the same month of the previous year.
The production of the manufacturing industry, which represents the dominant (95 percent) weight within industry, decreased by 9.5 percent, and the output of the mining industry, which has a minor weight, decreased by 4.4 percent, while the production of the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) increased by 12.3 percent. compared to the same month of the previous year.
The Central Statistical Office detailed: the volume of vehicle production, which has the largest weight and represents 28 percent of manufacturing industry production, decreased by 10.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The production of road vehicles decreased by 14.1 percent, and the production of road vehicle components decreased by 8.3 percent.
The production of computers, electronics, and optical products, which accounts for 10 percent of manufacturing industry production, decreased by the least of the sub-sectors – by 0.6 percent. In terms of the two largest sub-sectors, the production of electronic components and circuit boards decreased by 6.3 percent, while the production of computers and peripheral units increased by 1.0 percent.
The production of electrical equipment, which accounts for 8.9 percent of the manufacturing industry, fell by 24 percent – the largest of all sub-sectors – from a year earlier. Of the two most significant sub-sectors, the volume of production of batteries and dry cells decreased by 37 percent, and that of electric motors, power generators, distribution and control devices decreased by 17.1 percent.
