KSH: in February the foreign trade surplus for goods was 665 million euros, the volume of exports was 2.3 percent lower, and that of imports was 6.7 percent higher than in the same period of the previous year
In February, foreign trade amounted to 665 million euros, the balance deteriorated by 342 million euros compared to a year earlier. The volume of exports was 2.3 percent lower and that of imports was 6.7 percent higher than in the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Monday.
The seasonally and working day-adjusted volume of exports exceeded that of January by 2.6 percent, and that of imports by 1.2 percent.
In February, the value of exports was 12.7 billion euros (4,805 billion forints), and that of imports was 12.0 billion euros (4,554 billion forints). Expressed in euros, the value of exports increased by 2.6 percent and imports by 5.9 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
Adjusted for calendar effects, the volume of exports decreased by 2.3 percent and imports increased by 6.7 percent, the Central Statistical Office announced.
The price level of foreign trade turnover measured in forints decreased by 1.3 percent in exports and 6.9 percent in imports compared to the same month of the previous year. The terms of trade improved by 5.9 percent. The forint exchange rate strengthened by 6.1 percent against the euro and by 17 percent against the dollar.
The Central Statistical Office detailed: the export volume of machinery and transport equipment increased by 2.5 percent, and the import volume by 19 percent. The main commodity group of machinery and transport equipment slowed down the decline in total export volume on the export side by 1.5 percentage points, and strengthened the growth in volume on the import side by 8.3 percentage points.
The export volume of processed products decreased by 11 percent, and the import volume by 2.1 percent. The main commodity group of processed products accelerated the decrease in the volume of total exports by 3.2 percentage points in exports, and slowed down the increase in the volume of total imports by 0.7 percentage points in imports.
The export volume of energy carriers was 3.3 percent lower, and their import volume was 5.0 percent lower than a year earlier. The change in the turnover of energy carriers on the export side strengthened the decrease in the volume of total exports by 0.1 percentage points, and on the import side restrained the increase in the volume of total imports by 0.5 percentage points.
The volume of exports of food, beverages, tobacco decreased by 2.8 percent, and that of imports by 2.4 percent. The volume change realized by the main commodity group accelerated the decrease in total turnover in exports by 0.2 percentage points, and slowed down the increase in total turnover in imports by 0.1 percentage points.
The report explained: the volume of exports to EU member states decreased by 3.4 percent, and imports from there by 0.4 percent. The foreign trade balance of products improved by 29 million euros compared to February 2025, resulting in a surplus of 1,279 million euros. Hungary accounted for 74 percent of exports and 67 percent of imports in this relationship.
In trade with countries outside the EU, the volume of exports increased by 1.8 percent, and that of imports by 18 percent. The foreign trade balance of goods deteriorated by 371 million euros in this respect, showing a deficit of 614 million euros.
In January-February, the value of exports was 24 billion euros (9,323 billion forints), while imports were 23 billion euros (8,959 billion forints).
The volume of exports decreased by 6.0 percent, while imports increased by 4.6 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
The foreign trade balance of goods deteriorated by 818 million euros, with a surplus of 957 million euros was.
In the first two months of the year, the price level of foreign trade turnover measured in forints decreased by 0.1 percent in exports and 7.0 percent in imports compared to the same period of the previous year. The terms of trade improved by 7.4 percent. The forint strengthened by 6.5 percent against the euro and 18 percent against the dollar, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced.
