KSH: retail turnover in December exceeded the same period of the previous year by 0.1 percent, falling 1.2 percent from the previous month
The volume of retail trade turnover exceeded the same period of the previous year in December 2024 by 0.4 percent, adjusted for calendar effects, according to raw data, and by 0.1 percent, adjusted for calendar effects. It expanded by 1.2 percent in food and food-related mixed stores, and by 0.5 percent in non-food retail, while in fuel retail – as a result of a significant base effect – the volume of sales adjusted for calendar effects decreased by 6.9 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) told MTI on Thursday.
According to the report, according to seasonally and calendar-adjusted data, the volume of retail trade turnover fell by 1.2 percent from the previous month, which is partly explained by the Christmas shopping brought forward to November and the increase in outbound tourism.
According to the Central Statistical Office, in December, adjusted for calendar effects, compared to the same period of the previous year, the sales volume of food-type mixed stores, which account for 78 percent of food retail trade, increased by 1.2 percent, and that of food, beverage, and tobacco specialty stores by 1.8 percent.
In non-food retail trade, the sales volume increased by 5.5 percent in furniture and technical goods stores, 4.7 percent in pharmaceutical, medical product, and perfume stores, 0.4 percent in industrial goods mixed stores, 1.6 percent in second-hand goods stores, 3.6 percent in textile, clothing, and footwear stores, and 5.8 percent in book, computer, and other industrial goods stores.
The volume of mail-order and online retail, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 8.9 percent of retail trade, increased by 0.5 percent.
Sales at automotive and automotive parts stores, which are not included in retail data, increased by 20 percent.
