KSH: prices exceeded the values ​​of the same period of the previous year by 4.6 percent in December and by an average of 3.7 percent in 2024

In December 2024, consumer prices exceeded those a year earlier by an average of 4.6 percent, and by 0.5 percent compared to the previous months. In 2024, prices increased by an average of 3.7 percent compared to the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.

Food prices increased by 5.4 percent in 12 months, compared to December 2023.

In one year, compared to November 2023, the production of the manufacturing industry, which represents the decisive (95 percent) weight within industry, decreased by 5.1 percent, while the output of the minor mining industry increased by 52, and that of the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) by 5.1 percent.

The volume of industrial exports was 2.5 percent lower than a year earlier. The export of vehicle manufacturing, which represents 31 percent of manufacturing export sales, decreased by 17.3 percent, while that of computer, electronic, and optical products, which accounts for 13 percent, decreased by 1.3 percent.

Domestic sales of industry were 1.7 percent lower, and that of manufacturing was 6.8 percent lower than in the same month of the previous year.

The volume of vehicle manufacturing, which has the largest weight and represents 25 percent of manufacturing production, decreased by 13.5 percent – the largest among the sub-sectors – compared to the same month of the previous year. The production of road vehicles decreased by 26 percent, and the production of road vehicle components by 3.5 percent.

The production of computer, electronic, and optical products, which accounts for 11 percent of manufacturing production, decreased by 0.6 percent. In terms of the two largest sub-sectors, the production of electronic components and circuit boards decreased by 18.6 percent, while the production of computers and peripheral units increased by 22 percent.

The production of electrical equipment, which accounts for 9.9 percent of manufacturing, fell by 8.4 percent from a year earlier. Of the two most significant sub-sectors, the volume of production of batteries and dry cells fell by 21 percent, while the production of electric motors, power generators, distribution and control equipment increased by 1.9 percent.
