KSH: prices increased by 3.3 percent in December, and by an average of 4.4 percent in 2025
In December 2025, consumer prices were up by an average of 3.3 percent compared to a year earlier, and by 0.1 percent compared to the previous months. In 2025, prices rose by an average of 4.4 percent compared to the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced on Tuesday.

According to the report, in twelve months, compared to December 2024, food prices increased by 2.6 percent (excluding catering services, they decreased by 0.3 percent), including chocolate and cocoa by 13.5 percent, confectionery by 12.4 percent, coffee by 12.0 percent, buffet products by 11.8 percent, school meals by 8.1 percent, restaurant meals by 8.0 percent, non-alcoholic soft drinks by 6.6 percent, cooking oil by 5.8 percent, pastries by 5.6 percent, and eggs by 3.5 percent.
Within the product group The price of margarine decreased by 27.8 percent, flour by 11.6, dairy products by 14.3, milk by 12.3, pork by 9.8, sausage by 5.5, cheese by 5.3, and sugar by 4.0 percent.
On average, household energy costs increased by 8.9 percent, including piped gas by 19.8 and electricity by 2.2 percent. The prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products increased by 7.1 percent, including tobacco products by 8.6 percent.
Services increased by 6.8 percent, including holiday services by 14.3, personal care services by 9.8, vehicle repair and maintenance by 9.6, home repair and maintenance by 9.0, health services by 8.9, sports and museum tickets by 8.7, and rent by 5.7 percent.
The prices of durable consumer goods increased by 2.7 percent, including jewelry by 24.5, room furniture by 5.0, heating and cooking equipment by 5.7 percent. 2.3, new passenger cars cost 2.7 percent more. The price of vehicle fuels decreased by 8.6 percent, and the price of medicines and medical supplies increased by 5.1 percent.

Food prices decreased by 0.2 percent (excluding catering services, they decreased by 0.5 percent), including eggs by 3.0 percent, fruit and vegetable juices by 2.2, non-alcoholic soft drinks by 1.4, buffet items by 0.6, bread by 0.2 percent more, butter and buttercream by 2.4, cheese by 1.9, pork by 1.7, milk and cooking oil by 1.1-1.1 percent less.
Clothing items became more expensive by 0.3 percent. The price of household energy increased by 0.9 percent, including 1.4-1.4 percent more for piped gas and firewood. The price of services increased by an average of 0.8 percent, including the price of holiday services by 1.8 percent. The price of vehicle fuels decreased by 1.7 percent, while that of medicines and medical supplies increased by 0.2 percent.
In 2025, compared to the previous year, consumer prices increased by an average of 4.4 percent, with services becoming the most expensive, by 6.7 percent. The price of food increased by 5.3 percent (excluding catering services by 3.9 percent), that of alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 6.5 percent, that of household energy by 6.4 percent, that of clothing by 1.8 percent, that of durable consumer goods by 2.2 percent, and that of other goods by 0.4 percent. Consumer prices among retired households increased by an average of 4.5 percent.
