KSH: The production of food, beverages and tobacco products decreased by 12.2 percent
Production increased in some of the manufacturing subsectors, with the largest increase in the production of electrical equipment. Based on seasonally and working day-adjusted data, industrial output was 5.1 percent lower than in December 2022.
The volume of industrial exports was 0.2 percent lower than a year earlier. Exports of vehicle production, representing 31 percent of manufacturing export sales, increased by 19.5 percent, and the production of electrical equipment, which accounted for 14 percent, increased by 51 percent.
The domestic sales of industry fell by 16.5 percent, and that of the manufacturing industry by 11.5 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. The production of the processing industry, which represents a decisive weight within the industry (96 percent), increased by 1.2 percent, while that of the minor mining industry decreased by 16.6 percent. Emissions from the energy industry (electricity, gas, steam supply, air conditioning) fell by 19.5 percent, largely due to much milder weather than the previous year (according to the National Meteorological Service, the average temperature in January 2023 was 3.3 degrees Celsius higher than in 2022 . at January).
