KSH: in August, retail turnover decreased by 7.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month
In August 2023, the volume of retail trade decreased by 7.0 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, adjusted for calendar effects, according to the raw data, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.
According to data adjusted for seasonal and calendar effects, the volume of retail trade decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month.
In food and food-related mixed retail, the turnover volume decreased by 4.0 percent. The sales volume of food-type mixed stores, which account for 75 percent of food retail sales, decreased by 4.2 percent, and that of food, beverage, and tobacco specialty stores by 3.4 percent.
The turnover volume of non-food retail trade decreased by 5.2 percent overall. The volume of sales increased by 4.8 percent in pharmaceutical, medical product, and perfume stores, by 1.0 percent in second-hand goods stores, by 6.0 percent in book, computer technology, and other industrial goods stores, by 7.8 percent in textile, clothing, and footwear stores, it was 11 percent smaller in industrial goods-type mixed stores, and 15 percent smaller in furniture and technical goods stores.
