KSH: in August, the foreign trade surplus for goods was 557 million euros, while imports were 4.1 percent lower than in the same period of the previous year
In August, the goods trade surplus was 557 million euros, the balance improved by 263 million euros compared to a year earlier. The volume of exports was 4.4 percent and that of imports was 4.1 percent lower than the same period of the previous year. The seasonally and working day-adjusted volume of exports exceeded that of July 2025 by 0.7 percent, while that of imports was 1.1 percent lower, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced on Tuesday.
In August, the value of exports was 10.2 billion euros (4,043 billion forints), while that of imports was 9.6 billion euros (3,822 billion forints).
Expressed in euros, the value of exports decreased by 5.3 percent and that of imports by 8.0 percent compared to the same period a year earlier.
Adjusted for calendar effects, the volume of exports increased by 0.1 percent and that of imports by 0.3 percent.
The price level of foreign trade turnover in forints decreased by 0.5 percent in exports and 3.7 percent in imports compared to the same month of the previous year. The terms of trade improved by 3.2 percent. The forint exchange rate weakened by 0.4 percent against the euro and strengthened by 5.0 percent against the dollar.
The export volume of machinery and transport equipment decreased by 4.4 percent and its import volume by 3.2 percent. The main commodity group of machinery and transport equipment increased the total export volume by 2.4 percentage points on the export side and strengthened the total import volume decrease by 1.4 percentage points on the import side.
The export volume of processed products decreased by 11 percent and its import volume by 9.6 percent. The main commodity group of processed products increased the total export volume by 3.4 percentage points on the export side and strengthened the total import volume decrease by 3.6 percentage points on the import side.
The export volume of energy carriers was 43 percent higher and their import volume was 14 percent higher than a year earlier. The increase in energy carrier turnover offset the decrease in total turnover volume by 1.7 percentage points on the export side and 1.4 percentage points on the import side.
