KSH: in August, the product foreign trade surplus was 443 million euros
In August, the volume of exports decreased by 5.6 percent and that of imports by 4.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The asset amounted to 443 million euros, the balance deteriorated by 238 million euros compared to a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday based on its second estimate.
The balance showed a surplus of 228 million euros smaller than the first estimate, the report added.
Compared to July, the adjusted volume of exports increased by 1.5 percent, while that of imports decreased by 0.1 percent.
In August, the value of exports was 10.7 billion euros (4,242 billion forints), and that of imports was 10.3 billion euros (4,067 billion forints). Expressed in euros, the value of exports decreased by 5.5 percent and that of imports by 3.6 percent compared to the previous year.
Adjusted for the calendar effect, the export volume decreased by 0.1 percent, while the import volume increased by 1.3 percent compared to the previous year.
The price level of foreign trade product turnover, measured in forints, rose by 2.7 percent in exports and 3.5 percent in imports compared to the same month of the previous year. The exchange ratio deteriorated by 0.8 percent. The forint exchange rate weakened by 2.5 percent against the euro and 1.6 percent against the dollar.
The KSH detailed: the export volume of machinery and transport equipment was 11 percent lower, while the import volume was 7.4 percent lower. The volume of the product group of electrical machines, devices and instruments decreased by more than a fifth in exports and by more than a tenth in imports. The export volume of the road vehicle product group decreased by almost a sixth, and its import volume by almost a tenth compared to the base period. The export and import volume of news broadcasting, audio recording and playback devices decreased to an almost equal extent, but not significantly compared to a year earlier. The volume of the product group of energy-generating machinery and equipment was lower in exports and in imports by about a tenth compared to the same period of the previous year.
