KSH: in August, consumer prices increased by 3.4 percent on average compared to the same month of the previous year
In August 2024, they exceeded a year earlier by an average of 3.4 percent, and consumer prices did not change on average compared to July, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Tuesday.
Compared to last August, food prices increased by 2.4 percent, including flour by 27.7 percent, chocolate and cocoa by 10.6 percent, restaurant meals by 8.0 percent, fruit and vegetable juice by 6.7 percent, and cooking oil by 5.5 percent. , milk 4.8 percent, non-alcoholic soft drinks 4.4 percent, and pork 3.4 percent. Within the product group, the price of dry pasta decreased by 8.1 percent, that of eggs by 7.9 percent, that of dairy products by 5.7 percent, that of sugar by 4.6 percent, and that of bread by 1.7 percent.
According to the KSH report, services rose in price by 9.5 percent, including rent and personal care services by 10.6-10.6, highway tolls, car rental, parking by 10.5, vehicle repair and maintenance by 9.6, sports and museum entrance fees by 8.8 percent, home repair and maintenance by 8.5 percent, and holiday services by 6.2 percent.
The price of clothing items rose by 4.5 percent, spirits and tobacco by 3.9 percent, and within the latter, tobacco by 3.8 percent.
Household energy became cheaper by 4.3%, including piped gas by 9.4% and electricity by 1.7%.
Consumer durables had to pay 0.2 percent less, within which the price of used cars fell by 6.7 percent, jewelry by 9.2, new cars by 6.6, bedroom furniture by 2.3, and kitchen and other furniture by 1 increased by .7 percent.
Medicines and medical products rose in price by 5.9 percent, vehicle fuels became cheaper by 2.9 percent.
Compared to July, consumer prices did not change on average in one month. Food prices did not change either, including butter and butter cream 2.3 percent, pastries 1.9 percent, coffee 1.8 percent, dairy products 0.6 percent, milk 0.5 percent more, eggs 2.3 percent, dry pasta 1.7, Parisian sausage 1.4, and seasonal foods (potatoes, fresh vegetables, fresh domestic and southern fruit in total) cost 1.2 percent less.
