KSH: in April, retail turnover exceeded the same period of the previous year by 5.0 percent and the previous month by 2.0 percent
In April 2025, the volume of retail trade turnover increased by 6.8 percent according to raw data, and by 5.0 percent adjusted for calendar effects (and Easter effects) compared to the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
In food and food-related mixed stores, the volume of sales increased by 3.7 percent, in non-food retail by 4.0 percent, and in fuel retail by 2.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to seasonally and calendar-adjusted data, the volume of retail trade turnover exceeded the previous month by 2.0 percent.
In January-April 2025, the volume of turnover – also adjusted for calendar effects – exceeded the same period of the previous year by 3.4 percent.
In April, compared to the same period of the previous year, adjusted for calendar effects, the volume of turnover in food and food-related mixed retail trade increased by 3.7 percent. The sales volume of food-related mixed stores, which account for 76 percent of food retail trade, increased by 4.1 percent, and that of food, beverage, and tobacco specialty stores by 1.6 percent.
The volume of turnover in non-food retail trade expanded by 4.0 percent overall. The volume of sales in industrial goods-related mixed stores increased by 8.3 percent, in pharmaceutical, medical product, and perfume stores by 7.2 percent, in book, computer, and other industrial goods stores by 3.9 percent, in furniture, technical goods stores by 2.9 percent, in textile, clothing, and footwear stores by 1.0 percent, and in second-hand goods stores by 0.4 percent.
The volume of mail-order and online retail, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 8.4 percent of retail turnover, increased by 9.1 percent.
The volume of turnover at gas stations increased by 2.4 percent.
Sales of motor vehicle and motor vehicle spare parts stores, which are not included in retail data, increased by 1.5 percent.
National retail turnover reached HUF 1,703 billion at current prices in April.
