KSH: the number of guests (1.4 million) in tourist accommodation establishments increased by 17 percent and the number of guest nights (3.4 million) by 16 percent compared to a year earlier in April
In April 2025, 1.4 million guests spent 3.4 million guest nights in tourist accommodation (commercial, private and other). The number of guests was 17 percent higher and the number of guest nights was 16 percent higher than a year earlier, which was also due to Good Friday and Easter, which fell entirely in April this year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced on Wednesday.
According to the information, in January-April 2025, the number of domestic guests arriving at tourist accommodation was 4.1 percent higher, and that of foreign guests was 18 percent higher than the same period of the previous year.
In April 2025, based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of guests increased by 5.6 percent and the number of guest nights by 4.4 percent compared to April 2024. 69 percent of guests arrived at commercial accommodation, where their number increased by 14 percent compared to the previous year. Private and other accommodation registered 27 percent more guests than a year earlier.
The number of domestic guests was 12 percent more, and the number of guest nights they spent was 14 percent more than the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of domestic guests increased by 2.9 percent, and the number of guest nights they spent by 0.5 percent compared to April 2024.
The 683 thousand domestic guests spent 1.5 million guest nights in tourist accommodation, within which 484 thousand guests and nearly 1.1 million guest nights were registered in commercial accommodation.
78 percent of the latter guests were received by hotels, where their number increased by 9.9 percent compared to a year earlier. The number of domestic guests in private and other accommodation exceeded April 2024 by 18 percent.
The number of domestic guests increased in all tourist regions compared to the same month of the previous year, with the largest increase in the Tokaj and Nyíregyháza regions (by 27 percent). The number of domestic guests arriving at tourist accommodations was 14 percent higher at Lake Balaton and 5.7 percent higher in Budapest.
The number of foreign guests increased by 22 percent, and the number of guest nights spent by them increased by 17 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Based on seasonally adjusted data, the number of foreign guests increased by 11 percent and the number of guest nights spent by them increased by 6.1 percent compared to April 2024.
