2026. In February, the volume of retail trade turnover exceeded the same period of the previous year by 3.8 percent, both according to raw and calendar-adjusted data, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.

The volume of sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 2.2 percent in food and food-related mixed stores, 5.0 percent in non-food retail, and 6.4 percent in fuel retail compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to seasonally and calendar-adjusted data, the volume of retail trade turnover was 0.4 percent higher than the previous month.

2026. In January-February, the volume of turnover – also adjusted for calendar effects – exceeded the same period of the previous year by 3.6 percent.

The sales volume of food-type mixed stores, which account for 77 percent of food retail trade, increased by 4.1 percent, while that of food, beverage and tobacco specialty stores decreased by 4.3 percent – the report explained.

Within the overall 5.0 percent increase in the volume of turnover of non-food retail trade, the volume of sales in second-hand goods stores was 9.6, in textile, clothing and footwear stores 7.8, in industrial goods-type mixed stores 4.9, in book, The report listed the increase in computer technology and other industrial goods stores by 2.6 percent, pharmaceutical, medical product and perfume stores by 2.5 percent, and furniture and technical goods stores by 2.0 percent.

The volume of mail-order and online retail, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 9.1 percent of retail turnover, increased by 8.9 percent, the Central Statistical Office reported.

The volume of motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts stores, which are not included in retail data, increased by 8.2 percent.

In February, the national retail turnover reached 1,484 billion forints at current prices.

49 percent of the national retail turnover was realized in food and food-related mixed stores, 36 percent in non-food retail, and 14 percent in fuel station turnover – according to data from the Central Statistical Office.

In January-February, the calendar-adjusted volume of retail turnover increased by 3.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Sales volume increased by 1.7 percent in food and food-related retail trade, 4.9 percent in non-food retail trade, and 6.1 percent in fuel retail trade, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced.
