2026. In January, the volume of retail trade turnover increased by 3.0 percent, adjusted for calendar effects, compared to the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.

Sales in food and food-related mixed stores increased by 1.2 percent, in non-food retail by 4.7 percent, and in fuel retail by 5.7 percent, adjusted for calendar effects adjusted volume compared to the same period of the previous year.

According to seasonally and calendar adjusted data, the volume of retail trade was 0.5 percent higher than the previous month.

In January, the volume of turnover in food and food-related mixed retail trade increased by 1.2 percent. The sales volume of food-related mixed stores, which account for 77 percent of food retail trade, increased by 3.7 percent, while that of food, beverage and tobacco specialty stores decreased by 6.5 percent.

The Central Statistical Office announced that the volume of turnover in non-food retail trade expanded by 4.7 percent overall. The volume of sales increased by 10 percent in second-hand goods stores, 6.7 percent in textile, clothing and footwear stores, 3.3 percent in book, computer and other industrial goods stores, 1.9 percent in industrial goods-type general stores, and 1.5 percent in pharmaceutical, medical product and perfume stores. At the same time, the volume of turnover in furniture and technical goods stores decreased by 3.3 percent.

The volume of mail-order and online retail, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 9.8 percent of retail turnover, increased by 14 percent, the Central Statistical Office added.

The report revealed that the volume of motor vehicle and The volume of automotive parts stores decreased by 6.5 percent.

The turnover of national retail trade reached 1,504 billion forints at current prices in January. 50 percent of the turnover was realized in food and food-related mixed stores, 36 percent in non-food retail, and 14 percent in gas station turnover – the Central Statistical Office reported.
