KSH: retail turnover increased by 3.0 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, while remaining unchanged compared to the previous month
2025. In September, the volume of retail trade turnover increased by 3.4 percent according to raw data, or 3.0 percent adjusted for calendar effects, compared to the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Thursday.
Sales in food and food-type mixed stores increased by 3.1 percent, in non-food retail by 3.5 percent, and in fuel retail by 0.6 percent adjusted for calendar effects adjusted volume compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to seasonally and calendar adjusted data, the volume of retail trade remained unchanged compared to the previous month.
In September, the volume of turnover in food and food-related mixed retail trade increased by 3.1 percent compared to a year earlier. The sales volume of food-type mixed stores, which account for 76 percent of food retail trade, increased by 4.3 percent, while that of food, beverage and tobacco specialty stores did not change.
The volume of non-food retail trade increased by 3.5 percent overall. The volume of sales in pharmaceutical, medical product and perfume stores increased by 5.8 percent, in industrial goods-type mixed stores by 3.3 percent, and in furniture and technical goods stores by 1.5 percent. At the same time, the volume of turnover decreased by 1.1 percent in book, computer and other industrial goods stores, by 1.5 percent in second-hand goods stores, and by 4.4 percent in textile, clothing and footwear stores.
The volume of mail-order and online retail, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 9.0 percent of retail turnover, increased by 9.5 percent.
The report also noted that the volume of motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts stores, which are not included in the retail data, increased by 11 percent.
According to data from the Central Statistical Office, the turnover of national retail trade reached 1,661 billion forints at current prices.
49 percent of the national retail turnover was realized in food and food-related mixed stores, 36 percent in non-food retail, and 15 percent in fuel station turnover – the report shows.
2025. In January-September, the volume of retail trade turnover, adjusted for calendar effects, increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The volume of sales in food and food-related mixed retail trade increased by 2.7 percent, in non-food retail trade by 4.2 percent, and in fuel retail trade by 0.7 percent, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) announced.
