KSH: retail turnover increased by 4.1 percent in August compared to the same period of the previous year

According to the raw data, the volume of retail sales in August increased by 3.2 percent, and adjusted for the calendar effect by 4.1 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Monday.

The calendar-adjusted volume of sales in food and food-type mixed stores increased by 7.5 percent, in non-food retail by 2.9 percent, and in fuel retail by 1.2 percent.

The sales volume of food-type mixed stores, which account for 76 percent of food retail sales, increased by 8.9 percent, and that of food, beverage, and tobacco specialty stores by 3.4 percent.

The volume of non-food retail sales rose by 2.9 percent overall. It increased by 7.4 percent in pharmaceutical, medical product, and perfume stores, 4.9 percent in furniture and technical goods stores, 1.2 percent in book, computer technology, and other industrial goods stores, 2.2 percent in textile, clothing, and footwear stores, the volume of sales decreased by 2.8 percent in industrial goods type stores and by 6.9 percent in second-hand goods stores.

The volume of mail order and internet retail, which covers a wide range of goods and accounts for 7.0 percent of the retail turnover, increased by 6.1 percent.

The sales of motor vehicle and vehicle parts stores, which are not part of the retail data, decreased by 17 percent.

The KSH announced: in August, the national retail turnover at current prices reached HUF 1,668 billion.

50 percent of the national retail turnover was realized in food and food-type mixed stores, 34 percent in non-food retail, and 16 percent in fuel turnover at gas stations.

In January-August, the volume of retail trade increased by 2.8 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Adjusted for calendar effects, the volume in food and food-related mixed retail increased by 4.1 percent, in non-food retail by 1.9 percent, and in fuel retail by 1.3 percent, KSH announced.
