KSH: Unemployment is at 4.2 percent, 210,000 people are without work
In August 2024, the average number of employed persons aged 15-74 increased by 39,000 compared to the same period of the previous year, to 4,748,000. The number of unemployed was 210,000, the unemployment rate was 4.2 percent, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
In the three-month period between June and August, the average number of employed persons among those aged 15-74 increased by 31,000 to 4,752,000.

- the number of male employees decreased to 2 million 502 thousand,
- that of women increased by 43 thousand to 2 million 250 thousand,
- 4 million 586 thousand people worked in the primary labor market, 43 thousand more than a year earlier,
- among 15-64-year-olds, the employment rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to 75.2 percent. According to the report,the rate for men decreased slightly to 78.9 percent, and for women it increased by 1.3 percentage points to 71.4 percent.
- 108,000 people work abroad, the number of public employees decreased by 10,000 to 58,000.
According to the KSH, the average duration of the job search was 9.8 months, 40 percent of all the unemployed had been looking for a job for less than 3 months, while 36 percent had been looking for a job for at least a year, MTI reports based on the data.
