KSH: Consumer prices increased by 3.7 percent on average in April compared to the same month of the previous year
In April of this year, consumer prices were on average 3.7 percent higher than a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Friday.
Compared to March, prices rose by an average of 0.7 percent, vehicle fuels rose by 3.5 percent.
Compared to April 2023, the price of food products increased by 1.0 percent, including sugar (30.4 percent), buffet goods (9.6 percent), chocolate and cocoa (9.2 percent), pork (9 .2 percent), restaurant meals (8.4 percent), and non-alcoholic soft drinks (5.8 percent). The price of eggs decreased by 20.3 percent, flour by 19.7 percent, dry pasta by 12.5 percent, cheese by 9.6 percent, milk by 9.3 percent, bread by 9.0 percent, and poultry by 6.5 percent.
Services rose in price by 9.5 percent, including rent by 14.0, home repair and maintenance by 10.7, vehicle repair and maintenance by 10.1, tolls, car rental, parking by 9.8, sports and museum tickets 8.2, holiday services cost 5.4 percent more, travel to work and school 21.7 percent less.
The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 3.8 percent, including tobacco by 4.3 percent. The price of medicine and medicinal products increased by 7.3 percent, that of detergents and cleaning products by 3.8 percent, and that of personal care products by 2.1 percent. Household energy became cheaper by 4.5%, including piped gas by 9.2% and electricity by 2.9%.
