KSH: The foreign trade surplus in services was 3.1 billion euros in the fourth quarter of last year
In the fourth quarter of 2025, exports of services in euros increased by 7.6 percent and imports by 3.6 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. The surplus was 3.1 billion euros, 469 million euros more than in the fourth quarter of 2024, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Wednesday.
Compared to the previous quarter, the value of exports was 4.8 percent lower and imports were 6.6 percent higher, which worsened the balance by 930 million euros.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, the value of exports was 10 billion euros (3.9 thousand billion forints), and imports were 6.9 billion euros (2.7 thousand billion forints). The surplus in foreign trade in services amounted to 3.1 billion euros (1.2 thousand billion forints).
Among the service groups, tourism contributed 1,036 million euros, transport services 848 million euros, and business services 658 million euros to the surplus, the report highlighted.
We conducted 64 percent of our exports and 73 percent of our imports of services with the member states of the European Union, resulting in a surplus of 1.5 billion euros.
In this quarter, Germany was our most important partner again, with a 20 percent increase in exports. participated in the total turnover. The United States took second place with 8.3 percent, while Austria came third with 6.4 percent.
Of the total service exports, business services accounted for 46 percent (including other business services 25 percent), and transport services 25 percent.
Business services also dominated imports with 58 percent (including other business services 29 percent), while transport services accounted for 25 percent of the total import turnover.
The largest contribution to the increase in the asset was made by tourism with 276 million, and transport services with 25 percent. 135 million and the improvement in the balance of contract services by 69 million euros contributed, while the balance of some service groups (including personal, cultural and entertainment services by 73 million euros) deteriorated.
According to the Central Statistical Office, the value of the asset in EU trade became more favorable by 360 million euros, which can be primarily attributed to the increase in the balance of 234 and 135 million euros realized with Germany and Austria.
In the case of countries outside the EU, the asset improved by 109 million euros. Among the most significant factors behind the change, the Central Statistical Office highlighted the improvement in the balance of 52 million, 32 million and 22 million euros realized with Israel, the United States and the Republic of Korea, respectively.
The report also reports that in 2025, the value of exports was 38 billion euros (15 thousand billion forints) and imports were 26 billion euros (10 thousand billion forints). The value of exports increased by 2.6 percent (983 million euros), while imports decreased by 1.5 percent (387 million euros).
The Central Statistical Office (KSH) has informed about the data revision of foreign trade in services. Accordingly, the data for the full year of 2024 and the first three quarters of 2025 (wage labor service fees, tourism, repair and maintenance, transport, business and government services data) have been modified based on company data corrections. Compared to the previously published euro data, the value of exports in 2024 increased by 2.9 percent and imports by 3.6 percent, while exports in the first three quarters of 2025 were higher by 4.3 percent and imports by 4.5 percent.
