KSH: the yield of major crops decreased significantly in 2012
In 2012, yield of all the major autumn harvested crops decreased compared to the previous year – the Central Statistical Office announced on Monday.
Only 4744 thousand tons of maize was harvested in 2012. This is the lowest quantity of the recent years. The decrease was mainly due to the bad weather.
Three percent less wheat was harvested (nearly 4.0 million tons) from a 9 percent larger area (1063 hectares) in 2012, compared to the datas of the previous year. The average yield per hectare was 3740 kilograms. (MTI)
