A crisis situation may develop due to fertilizer throughout Europe
The situation in European fertilizer production has not settled in recent weeks: high natural gas and energy prices continue to force manufacturers to make serious decisions. Some have completely stopped their production, others have only reduced production capacity, and still others are trying to trade with foreign fertilizers to at least maintain distribution. In the meantime, it is an open question whether there will be a shortage of individual fertilizers.

The specialist also added that a significant decline can be observed both on the demand and supply side, which sooner or later may also be reflected in prices. European fertilizer production is still determined by increased prices: not only is natural gas several times the price level of a year ago, but production costs have also risen considerably. And if this alone were not enough of a problem, European nitrogen fertilizer factories are constantly shutting down – Ákos Balássy, head of Central and Eastern Europe at EuroChem Agro Hungary Kft., explained to Agrárszektor. The specialist said that there are plants that have been closed for a long time, as well as those that have only recently shut down, and there are also those that have not shut down, but are working at reduced capacity.
