Food prices are in the centre of attention
In June 2011 the production price level of agricultural products was 35.3 percent higher than a year before. KSH’s report indicates that vegetable product prices surged by 46.7 percent and the prices of livestock and products of animal origin grew by 15 percent in one year. The production price of potato fell by 8 percent and that of vegetables was down 13.7 percent. For instance there was a 40-percent drop in the price of tomato and cucumber could be sold for 15 percent less. Fruit production prices were 27.9 percent higher than a year earlier. Sour cherry was bought from growers for twice as much as last year. In January-June 2011 cereal prices were 89.2 percent higher than in the same period of 2010.
