Hungarian shoppers are increasingly putting together their holiday baskets in a single, larger order. The number of products in a basket and the average basket value are also increasing during this period. Shoppers are planning more consciously and are purchasing everything they need for intimate Easter moments in fewer, even one large order.

Preparing for Easter is no longer about rushing – one well-planned order and everything you need for the family table arrives. Hungarian shoppers are also purchasing everything they need for the Easter period in fewer, consciously planned orders. The average basket value at this time exceeds the normal period by 6 percent, according to the experience of Kifli.hu: last year it increased to 28 thousand forints, and an average of 33 products were included in one order – meaning the entire Easter shopping moved into one basket. From artisanal cakes and farmer’s ham to fresh horseradish and selected cheeses to chocolate eggs, as well as gifts and drinks can also be delivered to your home in a single order. There is no need to visit multiple stores, stand in lines or make unnecessary trips – this leaves more time for holiday gatherings, while high-quality, affordable products or premium favorites arrive with a click, at the same price or cheaper than in traditional stores.

According to data from Kifli.hu, around 10,000 pieces of classic Easter ham will be on family tables during the holiday season, totaling more than 9 tons: an average customer buys 1.27 kilograms – this is revealed from an analysis of data from the previous Easter period. The most popular products for cozy Easter breakfasts are clearly the traditional, tied smoked hams. The top list is led by Bogádi smoked tied ham, followed by Pick Békebeli smoked walnut ham and Gazda smoked raw tied ham – clearly showing that classic flavors continue to be dominant on the Easter table. “Customers are not only choosing premium products – many are also filling their baskets with smaller, affordable Easter delicacies, such asKifli.huwith its own brand products of excellent quality, available at prices even lower than in supermarkets. Meat substitutes and Easter products for special diets, such as lactose- or gluten-free, are also becoming increasingly popular,” said Szilveszter Sasvári, CEO of Kifli.hu marketing manager.

Eggs are a fundamental element of family Easters at home: during the Easter period, more than 57 thousand boxes of eggs are sold, with an average customer placing 2.2 boxes in their basket. The most popular are clearly the 10-piece packages, especially deep-litter and free-range eggs. Customers in Hungary buy 20 thousand chocolate bunnies and 21 thousand chocolate eggs at this time. Among sweets, well-known brands lead the sales. The most popular Easter product was the Kinder Surprise chocolate egg with nearly 10,000 pieces sold, while the Lindt Golden Bunny proved to be the most popular among chocolate bunnies. Easter cakes cannot be missing from the table either: during this period, customers ordered more than 13,000 pieces, among the most popular are the JÓkenyér butter cake, the Kávéházi braided cake, and the artisan braided cake from Panificio il Basilico.

According to regional data from the parent company of Kifli.hu, the Rohlik Group, shows that ham is the most popular meat product during the holidays in Hungary and the Czech Republic, while fish and seafood top the list in Romania during this period, in line with Orthodox Easter traditions. Austria and Germany stand out in egg purchases: a customer puts up to 5-6 boxes of eggs in their basket, which is two to three times the Hungarian average. In terms of sweets, chocolate dominates in Hungary, while biscuits and wafers also play a prominent role in other markets – such as the Czech Republic. Among baked goods, savory products are the most popular in most markets.
