The Debrecen-based packaging technology family business, Sz. Variáns Kft., has put into operation its new Heidelberg UV printing press capable of 5 colors + varnishing as part of a 660 million forint investment, with which it will increase the production capacity of premium and luxury packaging from 2026.

The development was implemented with the support of the Demján Sándor Program: the program is financing 29% of the total cost, approximately 200 million forints.

According to the announcement, UV technology ensures immediate ink fixation, which can reduce drying time and production losses, and supports the LEAN approach applied at the company for more than eight years. The new machine is also suitable for complex tasks, including on metal-vaporized and closed-surface materials, so some of the work that previously required subcontractors can be done in-house.

Sz. Variáns Kft. employs 73 employees and 100 workers with disabilities; its turnover is reportedly close to 2 billion forints. 85% of their production goes domestically, 15% to export markets (mainly Slovakia, Romania, Austria and Germany). The company is forecasting growth of under 5% for 2025, plans a 10% expansion for 2026, and has also envisaged further machine modernizations.
