Nearly EUR 6bn in fines since the start of GDPR
DLA Piper reports that EU data protection fines have reached EUR 5.88bn since the GDPR came into effect, from which EUR 1.2bn were imposed in 2024.

Although the annual sum of the fines has decreased by 33% compared to the previous year, the technology sector remains the most affected. Hungary ranks 17th in Europe for GDPR fines, with EUR 4.2m. The EU continues to investigate the legality of “consent or pay” models, which in most cases don’t comply with the GDPR’s current consent requirements. //
