Nearly HUF 570 million for more than 2,200 local projects
A new grant of around HUF 39 million was received by local small communities in the 15th anniversary round of Tesco’s “You choose, we help” tender program. Since 2016, the company has provided a total of nearly HUF 570 million for the implementation of more than 2,200 environmental beautification, educational and skill development projects, as well as encouraging healthy lifestyles across the country. This time, customers decided the fate of 152 initiatives in the stores with 2.4 million votes. The community program will be renewed in the autumn after 15 rounds to provide support in a new form for the implementation of important local issues.
In its “You choose, we help” tender program, Tesco leaves it up to customers to decide on the distribution of support for community programs in their own neighborhood. In the voting period from July 15 to August 11, Tesco customers could vote for, among other things, the organization of a series of literary therapy programs, the establishment of an outdoor classroom, the establishment of a convalescent home for the recovery of injured wild animals, experiential photography for the disabled, and the establishment of a village gastronomy workshop. More than 2.4 million tokens were thrown into the collectors located in the department stores, and the most votes were cast in the Tesco Extra in Szeged.
Based on the number of tokens, the company supports 152 applicant organizations nationwide with around 39 million forints, the Bábonyibérci Self-Help Association of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén counties, the Technical and Natural Science Culture Association of Vas county, the Tarisznya Camps Foundation of Nógrád county, the Pest counties Thanks, volunteer! Association and the initiative of the Heves County Life Tree Environmental Protection Association for their creativity and comprehensive approach.
In the 15th round, applications were received from 53 districts in the categories of initiatives supporting education and skill development, encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and protecting and beautifying the environment, from which the independent experts of the Effekteam Association selected those that advanced to the voting stage. In each district, Tesco will award HUF 400,000 to those who collect the most votes, HUF 200,000 to those with the second highest number of tokens, and HUF 100,000 to the third place winners, while special prize winners will be awarded an additional HUF 400,000 per application.
