The number of cattle slaughters increased by almost 30 percent in the first nine months of 2025

According to the AKI slaughter statistics, in the January-September 2025 period, cattle slaughter in live weight increased by almost 29 percent compared to the January-September 2024 volume. The slaughter of cows, which account for more than half of all slaughters, increased by 7.7 percent, and that of heifers by 19.6 percent.

According to the KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports decreased by 35.5 percent (49 thousand tons) and their value by 18.7 percent in the first nine months of 2025 compared to January-September 2024. The main partners were Israel, Croatia, Poland, Italy and Austria. Hungary’s live cattle imports fell by 55.5 percent (6.2 thousand tons) and their value by 46.1 percent compared to a year earlier. Almost half of the live cattle came from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The volume of beef exports increased by 71.4 percent (9.2 thousand tons). The volume of beef imports decreased by 4.3 percent (9.4 thousand tons), while its value increased by 31.8 percent in the observed period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of slaughter cattle continued to increase in weeks 1–44 of 2025: per kilogram of carcass warm weight, the producer price of a young bull was HUF 2,074, that of a slaughter heifer HUF 1,415 and that of a slaughter cow HUF 1,472.
