The number of foreign tourists in Romania increased by nearly 13 percent in the first nine months of 2023
The number of foreign tourists in Romania increased by 12.8 percent in the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period of the previous year, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Monday.
Between January 1 and September 30, 1.837 million foreigners spent at least one night in an official accommodation in Romania, compared to 1.629 million a year earlier. The number of domestic tourists increased by 2.7 percent, from 9.070 million to 9.315 million. Overall, the number of tourists in Romania increased by 4.2 percent in the first nine months of the year.
The number of guest nights increased by 3.3 percent to 24.099 million. The number of guest nights increased by 2.3 percent for domestic tourists and 9.3 percent for foreigners.
In September, the number of tourists was 1.313 million, 0.1 percent higher than a year earlier, but the number of guest nights decreased by 2.1 percent, to 2.777 million. The number of foreign tourists increased by 12.5 percent, while the number of domestic tourists decreased by 2.3 percent. The number of guest nights for foreigners increased by 10.6 percent, while that of domestic guests decreased by 4.4 percent.
