Lidl Hungary has been placing special emphasis on supporting Hungarian suppliers, including Hungarian dairy farmers, for years. The supermarket chain sold approximately 99 million liters of ESL and UHT milk from Hungarian suppliers in the 2025 financial year. The company has been working for years to ensure that, with the cooperation of domestic suppliers, as much high-quality domestic milk and dairy products as possible are put on the tables of Hungarian families.

Lidl Hungary has played a prominent role in the sale of domestic milk and dairy products for many years, as a result of which it sold approximately 99 million liters of ESL and UHT milk from Hungarian suppliers to domestic consumers in the 2025 financial year. The three products sold in the largest quantities — 2.8% ESL and UHT milk, and 1.5% UHT milk without screw cap — had a combined turnover of over 60 million liters, all of which come from Hungarian producers.

Lidl, as a responsible and ethical company, is committed to providing its customers with high-quality food with the best possible price-value ratio, while supporting the domestic economy is of paramount importance to it. Accordingly, customers can choose from a permanent range of nearly 120 types of milk and dairy products exclusively from Hungarian suppliers on the shelves. These include products popular among consumers such as ESL milk, Trappist cheese, curd cheese, cottage cheese rudi, kefir and sour cream, which are all made from Hungarian milk and domestic processors on the shelves of the supermarket chain, guaranteeing a short supply chain and excellent quality.

It is our common interest to make quality Hungarian food available to as many households as possible. That is why it is also outstanding that in the 2025 financial year we received 11 percent more milk and dairy products from our domestic suppliers than a year earlier”  – emphasized Zoltán Nepp, Purchasing Director of Lidl Hungary, and then added: “Our goal is to strengthen the position of Hungarian dairy producers not only at home, but also on foreign markets, guaranteeing them a predictable and secure market.”

The company also supports Hungarian dairy producers in ensuring that their products appear on foreign markets. In the 2025 financial year, domestic suppliers, with the cooperation of the supermarket chain, exported milk and dairy products worth 11.5 billion forints to 16 European countries. Romania, Croatia and Slovakia are in the top three places on the list of target countries. The most popular of the exported products is ESL milk, of which more than 13.2 million liters were exported to foreign markets.

Supporting the position of Hungarian milk producers is of paramount importance to Lidl, and to this end, it launched several campaigns in the last quarter and also participated in the Milk Product Council’s “Milk Heart” campaign to encourage customers to consume Hungarian milk and dairy products, thereby helping domestic milk producers, processors and suppliers.

Lidl Hungary works with Hungarian producers wherever possible, and the Lidl for Hungarian Suppliers program also aims to establish a clear, long-term partnership with its partners: providing a reliable and predictable market for their products, development opportunities and secure partnership cooperation for domestic suppliers.
